FIRST POST: Statement of Intent

Despite the title, my intent is precisely NOT to shoot the wounded. I aim not to criticize a movie--at least not in the normal sense of the word--but rather to ponder how it works as a film. As entertainment, as art, as cultural "artifact"....whatever. The decisions that went into its creation. The effect it has on an audience. The larger questions it raises.

While this focus clearly betrays my more than passing interest in the making of film, hopefully my writing will provide worthy reading material for anyone who appreciates film in any sense, even casually.

Hopefully my writing will also be a lot less self-serious than this post.
